Sample seeding is a numbers game
July 2026 · by the Aventra Media team
A pattern we see constantly: a brand ships ten samples to creators, gets two mediocre videos and zero sales, and concludes that sample seeding "doesn't work." Then they watch a competitor's product go viral through an affiliate they never heard of and wonder what magic they missed.
There was no magic. There was volume.
The funnel nobody writes down
Seeding is a funnel, and every stage leaks. Some creators never post. Some post content that goes nowhere. A few post something decent. And a small handful post the video that actually sells. You cannot know in advance which creator is which; nobody can, including the creators themselves. The only reliable lever is the number of honest attempts you feed into the top of the funnel.
Our team has shipped more than 15,000 samples across the shops we've operated. That experience produced exactly one universal rule: brands that treat samples as a cost to minimize get minimal results, and brands that treat samples as media spend get media results.
How to run it properly
- Ship more than feels comfortable. If the sample count feels frugal, the results will be too.
- Brief with the box. A sample that arrives with hooks and angles gets better content than a bare product with a note that says "post whenever!"
- Chase every shipment. Follow up within days. The follow-up, not the shipment, is what turns a freebie into a post.
- Double down on converters. The moment a creator sells, they stop being a seeding target and become a partner. Re-brief them, re-supply them, and put them on every relevant launch.
Sample cost is the cheapest attention money can buy on TikTok Shop right now. But only at volume, and only with follow-through.
